A Carp with Dragon Dreams

For the highly anticipated Year of the Dragon, Fictionist Studio wanted to have a gift pack that surpassed expectations from their previous track record of award-winning Chinese New Year gift packs. 

There is a story of resilience shared among East Asian cultures, where a carp ascends a waterfall and turns into a dragon, symbolising the overcoming of challenges and transcending to the next level. In an attempt to push the format of what a red packet can be, I incorporated pop-ups directly onto the envelope, using the fish/dragon tail to act as a pull-tab.

The result is a red packet that initially looks like a carp, but transforms into a dragon upon pulling the tail. Here is to reaching our full potentials and overcoming our waterfalls!
